Before we met in real life, back when we were just writing to each other every day from across the Atlantic, Tom sent me a playlist as a birthday present that had Golden Cage by the Whitest Boy Alive on it and listening to it I suddenly went from walking through Hoboken at night to somewhere else entirely...
Getting a thoughtful playlist is huge, and then being transported by it, next level.
That reminds me, I photographed Erland once when he was in Kings of Convenience. It's a strange photo, I like it, but I always felt it looked like someone else took it.
i'll never forget my first headphones and music on my morning walk to work. I was transported. and i almost died, not paying attention to the Do Not Walk sign at the corner. still, magical. eventually, a bit of weed to boot... and more magic.
In a lovely coincidence, and perhaps slightly related to your point about music lining up neatly with life, I was listening to Billie’s ‘I’ll Be Seeing You’ just as I began to read this.
But I know what you mean, about the music intersecting with life. Remember when we all had MP3 players like the iPod, rather than our phones for music? I had just gotten my first one (a Dell Digital Jukebox! Terrible, terrible product) and I took it with me to London for a work thing. I left my hotel room to go to dinner and as I walked down the hall I put in earbuds and started playing a song with a long, quiet beginning. The music slowly crept up while I was in the elevator and walking toward the front door, and when I pushed the door open, the crescendo hit and outside, suddenly, was all this London. It was like I was walking through a movie set, complete with score.
I had, like, five of those Jukeboxes. The guts got scrambled continuously, they kept sending me a new one and finally they stopped making them. Smart decision.

I love that!

Hey, maybe I can turn that into a post.
Would love to see it, and read about it! A lifetime ago I shot Vampire Weekend and feel the same way.

You do have to be careful. I thought I might get plowed into a snowbank.

PERFECT
The truck at 4-way stop is my favorite.

Yeah I like that one too.
I remember that Jukebox! Or did you have another one after that too? I remember some little brick that you had.
Sounds like maybe the beginning of a Guy Richie movie, if you'd been going to meet up with some London gangsters.
